NASHVILLE — The early voting period for Tennessee’s State and Federal General Election, scheduled for November 3, is set to commence next week. Registered voters across the state can begin casting their ballots on Wednesday, October 14, with the period running through Thursday, October 29.
Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett issued a reminder to all eligible voters about these dates, emphasizing the convenience and accessibility of the early voting process. Secretary Hargett noted that “Early voting makes it easy for registered Tennesseans to participate in the electoral process.” He encouraged all eligible voters to make a plan to vote, highlighting the opportunity to shape the future of their communities, state, and nation through their participation.
To assist voters, various resources are available. Registered Tennesseans can access information such as polling locations and hours, view sample ballots, and check their voter registration status by downloading the free GoVoteTN app or by visiting GoVoteTN.gov. These platforms serve as comprehensive sources for election-related inquiries.
When voting in person, whether during the early voting period or on Election Day, voters are required to present a valid photo identification. This ID must be current or expired but must have been issued by the federal government or the state of Tennessee. Certain forms of identification are not accepted, including college student IDs, non-U.S. Citizen IDs, and IDs issued by local governments or other states. For details regarding exemptions to this requirement or information on how to obtain a free photo ID, voters can visit GoVoteTN.gov, which also provides additional information about the early voting process.
Ahead of casting their ballots, voters are strongly advised to review three proposed constitutional amendments that will appear on the November ballot. Each amendment will be presented as a separate yes-or-no question. Summaries of these proposed amendments have been prepared by the Office of the Attorney General, in compliance with Tennessee law. These summaries are intended to help voters gain a better understanding of each amendment before Election Day. Further information on these amendments and other election topics is available on GoVoteTN.gov and through the GoVoteTN app. The Secretary of State’s office underscores the importance of being informed and utilizing the available resources to ensure a smooth voting experience.
