The Gatlinburg City Commission recently adopted a resolution to name a bridge in honor of Ray I. "Crow" Ogle, a lifelong city resident, businessman, and longtime Sevier County commissioner. The bridge, located near the intersection of River Road and Ski Mountain Road, will now officially be known as the Ray I. "Crow" Ogle Bridge. This recognition occurred at the commission’s regular meeting on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, where Ogle was presented with a framed copy of the resolution and a sign bearing his name was unveiled. The sign was subsequently placed at the bridge the following day.

Ogle, who celebrated his 90th birthday on October 18, has spent his entire life in Gatlinburg, remaining a familiar figure in the community for decades. His business endeavors included operating a towing service that assisted residents, visitors, and motorists throughout Gatlinburg and Sevier County for many years. He also owned and operated a store situated near the very bridge that now carries his name, establishing a direct and special connection to its location.

Beyond his business ventures, Ogle has dedicated numerous years to public service as a member of the Sevier County Commission. He represents the citizens of the 11th District, an area that encompasses the City of Gatlinburg. Ogle was re-elected to another four-year term in August 2026 and was officially sworn in on September 1, 2026, continuing his commitment to the district.

Gatlinburg City Manager Greg Patterson commented on Ogle's deep roots in the community, noting that his life has been closely intertwined with the city's history and growth. Patterson described Ogle as a familiar face to generations of residents and expressed pride in the city's decision to recognize him in a manner that will "forever connect his name to the community he has called home for 90 years."

Gatlinburg Mayor Mike Werner emphasized the particular significance of the bridge's location for this honor. Werner explained that for many years, the area was a place where Ogle worked, operated a business, and frequently interacted with people from across the community. The Mayor called the naming a "fitting tribute to someone whose life has been so closely connected to Gatlinburg's history."

The resolution formally adopted by the City Commission on that Tuesday evening served as a means for the City to convey its appreciation to Ogle for his unwavering dedication throughout his many years of service. The resolution articulated the City of Gatlinburg’s appreciation for Ray I. "Crow" Ogle's lifelong connection to the city, his extensive career as a local businessman, his continued commitment to public service, and his broader contributions to the community he has resided in his entire life.
