The City of Sevierville Public Works Department has announced that its annual leaf collection season will commence on October 19 and is projected to conclude in mid-January 2027. Residents of Sevierville have been provided with two distinct methods for leaf disposal, both managed by the Public Works Department, and are encouraged to review each option carefully.

The first alternative allows for the collection of bagged leaves. Alongside other bagged yard waste, these items will be picked up on a bi-weekly schedule as part of the city's bulk rubbish/junk collection service. To arrange for this service, residents can either contact the Public Works Department at 865-429-4567 to request a work order or simply place their bagged leaves and yard waste at the curbside. The department emphasized that "NO SPECIAL PICKUPS WILL BE MADE" for bagged waste, indicating strict adherence to the established bi-weekly collection timetable.

The second option caters to loose leaves. The Public Works Department will deploy vacuum trucks to neighborhoods, with the goal of making a complete sweep every two weeks. The city has been strategically divided into three sections to ensure systematic coverage. Crews will conduct a full collection sweep of all sections before beginning another comprehensive cycle. While the department strives to maintain the bi-weekly schedule, it cautioned that collection times may extend longer during periods of peak leaf fall or in the event of equipment malfunctions. Similar to the bagged collection, the Public Works Department stated that unscheduled collections for loose leaves will not be conducted, reinforcing the reliance on the regular route system.

To ensure efficient and successful collection of loose leaves, residents must adhere to specific preparation guidelines. Leaves should be raked into rows that do not exceed three feet in width. It is critical that vehicles are not parked in front of leaf piles; any piles obstructed by parked vehicles will not be collected during the initial pass. Collection of blocked piles will only occur when the service truck returns to the area as scheduled, provided the obstruction has been removed. Additionally, leaf piles must be free of any foreign materials. Limbs, rocks, and other debris must be removed from the leaves. Piles found to be mixed with such materials will also be bypassed during the scheduled collection. For these contaminated piles, collection will be deferred until the service truck’s next scheduled return to the area, assuming the leaves have been properly separated from other debris by then.

Residents seeking further information or clarification regarding the leaf collection process, including specific requirements for preparing leaves, are advised to contact the Sevierville Public Works Department directly at 865-429-4567.
