The City of Sevierville Public Works Department has announced the commencement of its annual leaf collection season, set to begin on October 19, as Sevierville, TN - News Flash reported. The service is scheduled to continue through mid-January 2027, offering residents two distinct methods for disposing of fallen leaves.
Residents are encouraged to review both collection alternatives carefully to determine the best option for their needs and to understand the specific requirements for each. For any questions regarding the leaf collection process, the Public Works Department can be reached directly at 865-429-4567.
The first alternative allows for the collection of bagged leaves. These will be picked up alongside other bagged yard waste during the bi-weekly bulk rubbish and junk collection service. To utilize this option, residents have two choices: they may contact the Public Works Department at 429-4567 to request a work order, or they can simply place their bagged leaves at the curbside for pickup on the scheduled bi-weekly route. The department stresses that no special pickups will be made outside of the established bulk collection schedule.
The second option involves the vacuum collection of loose leaves. The Public Works Department will deploy crews to make every effort to sweep through neighborhoods approximately every two weeks. However, residents should anticipate that pickup times may vary and could take longer during peak periods of heavy leaf fall or in the event of equipment breakdowns. To manage the collection efficiently, the city has been divided into three distinct sections. Crews will systematically complete a full sweep of all three sections before restarting the collection cycle, ensuring comprehensive coverage throughout the entire leaf collection season. Similar to the bagged leaf service, the department underscores that no special pickups will be made for loose leaf piles.
For residents choosing the loose leaf collection service, adherence to specific guidelines is crucial to ensure efficient and successful pickup. Leaves must be raked into rows, with each row not exceeding three feet in width. It is imperative that vehicles are not parked in front of leaf piles. Piles that are blocked by parked vehicles will not be collected; service will only resume for those piles when the service truck returns to the area on its scheduled route and the obstruction has been removed.
Additionally, leaf piles must be free of any foreign materials. Residents are required to remove limbs, rocks, and any other debris from their leaf piles. Piles found to be mixed with other materials will not be collected until the service truck’s next scheduled return to the area, at which point the homeowner must have separated the leaves from the prohibited debris. These measures are in place to ensure the safety of collection personnel and to prevent damage to equipment.
Residents with further inquiries about either leaf collection alternative or specific requirements are advised to contact the Sevierville Public Works Department directly at 865-429-4567.
